Hi there.
I have installed on my Windows XP the Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition.
I unpacked a .pup (from production = CS Enterprise Edition) that created
profile definitions and other resources.
I imported the database, changed all connections definitions and when i
attempted to access my web site appeared the message (Failed to initialize
profile service handle). I watched all dlls and became surprised when i saw
that mscsups.dll was not installed on my computer. After copied from cd or
production CS, the message still appearing but with additional information
COMException - REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG. What else .dll or what i have to do. I
tried to install/reinstall many times.
Tks.

First, only CS2002 SP2 and later are supported on Windows XP. You can
download SP2 from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=58E6D658-CC3E-4846-
8EF7-264E6EEB4C1E&displaylang=en

or SP3 from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A29FE5A9-23C9-4AE3-
916B-F51D984275A4&displaylang=en

You could also try using regmon
(http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/regmon.html) to determine the class
that is causing this failure. It could be related to an ADO registration
issue.

David, tks for the answer, but I also have installed CS2202 SP3 and also
Feature Pack 1 SP1.
I compared the files from a CS Enterprise (on a Remote Server) and the files
at my Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 directory. Some files like MSCSUPS.dll
were not registered (saw with RegMon). I copied this file (Profile dll) and
registered, but still doesn't work.
I think this is an issue about installation of Commerce at XP. For me, don't
work, and my XP has also SP2.
Any other suggestion???

If mscsups.dll was not registered, I'm suspicious that a number of other
required dlls are also missing. But I was confused by your firs sentence.
You should have SP3 or FP1, but not both. If you are using FP1, SP3 is not
required. SP3 is just a rollup of the fixes that FP1 implemented, without
the additional functionality. If you have installed both, try re-insalling
with only one or the other.

Hi David...I have the same feeling that other dlls are missing.
I also tried to install:

Commerce Developer+SP2+FP1
Commerce Developer+SP3+FP1
Commerce Developer+SP3 (At this scenario I have a problem with my catalog
that are on FP schema)

Commerce Developer CD is from MS Pack, so can´t be wrong. I also encountered
a large number of articles about the same problem at google, but no
successful answer was given.

I have no idea what more can I do. Not even RegMon have helped me at this
point.

Looking at your original error again ("Failed to initialize profile service
handle"), there may actually be a different problem related to the
database import. I wouldn't even expect to see this original error message
if the profiles subsystem was completely missing. It seems likely that one
of your data source connection strings is incorrectly configured.

Try looking at your DataSources in Commerce Server Manager. Browse down to
the Partitions node and examine the connection string of each partition
that appears in the right pane. When a database is imported, these
connection strings will point to the original location of your profile
data. If you find this to be the case, edit the connection string and
point it at the right DB/server.

You can avoid this problem by importing your profile definitions through
the Commerce Server Manager. When you do this, you will be explicitly
prompted to enter the connection strings for you profile data.

Hi there.
I have installed on my Windows XP the Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition.
I unpacked a .pup (from production = CS Enterprise Edition) that created
profile definitions and other resources.
I imported the database, changed all connections definitions and when i
attempted to access my web site appeared the message (Failed to
initialize

profile service handle). I watched all dlls and became surprised when i
saw

that mscsups.dll was not installed on my computer. After copied from cd

production CS, the message still appearing but with additional

Sorry David.
I am a Commerce Developer for more then 3 years....
This issue is not about profile database misconfigurated or other thing like
that.
Finally my development server arrived and there i will install all programs
and Commerce Enterprise.
I couldn't identify what was worng about trying to run commerce developer
under windows xp.
For me this not work and i could not find a solution.
Thanks for your time, but that' s it.

Hi David...I have the same feeling that other dlls are missing.
Commerce Developer+SP2+FP1
Commerce Developer+SP3+FP1
Commerce Developer+SP3 (At this scenario I have a problem with my catalog
that are on FP schema)
Commerce Developer CD is from MS Pack, so can´t be wrong. I also
encountered
a large number of articles about the same problem at google, but no
successful answer was given.
I have no idea what more can I do. Not even RegMon have helped me at this
point.

If mscsups.dll was not registered, I'm suspicious that a number of other
required dlls are also missing. But I was confused by your firs
sentence.
Post by David Hargis [MSFT]
You should have SP3 or FP1, but not both. If you are using FP1, SP3 is
not

required. SP3 is just a rollup of the fixes that FP1 implemented,
without

the additional functionality. If you have installed both, try
re-insalling

with only one or the other.

David, tks for the answer, but I also have installed CS2202 SP3 and also
Feature Pack 1 SP1.
I compared the files from a CS Enterprise (on a Remote Server) and the files
at my Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 directory. Some files like
MSCSUPS.dll
Post by David Hargis [MSFT]
were not registered (saw with RegMon). I copied this file (Profile dll)
and
Post by David Hargis [MSFT]
registered, but still doesn't work.
I think this is an issue about installation of Commerce at XP. For me, don't
work, and my XP has also SP2.
Any other suggestion???
Regards,
Marcéu Schulte

First, only CS2002 SP2 and later are supported on Windows XP. You can

You could also try using regmon
(http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/regmon.html) to determine the

that is causing this failure. It could be related to an ADO
